Digital Screen-Media or networked Digital Signage as it is most commonly called in the USA is a communication medium for the purposes of marketing, information or ambience in the out-of-home environment. A primary characteristic of screen-media is the ability to narrowcast; a capability that contrasts with the broadcast nature of television.

Screen-media is typically highly relevant to its location, very visible and high impact, making it one of the most effective communication mediums available. In June of 2005 a survey indicated there were 88,000 screens in the UK market being used in retail for the purposes of in-store marketing and this figure has grown to over 130,000 in 2008.
