The evolution and convergence of multimedia and broadband technologies are changing the way we communicate in practically every industry and part of life. The Web was just the beginning. The need to communicate powerful messages to audiences in targeted locations at the most opportunistic time is necessary to maintain a competitive edge. With traditional advertising mediums such as television becoming more and more fragmented, and with innovations that allow viewers to skip over commercials, mass-market advertisers are desperate to find a better and more cost effective way to reach their target audience. With off the shelf "broadcast multimedia" software solutions from Scala, it is now possible to easily create private "out of home" advertising networks specifically optimized for this new, targeted mass medium.
As with any new and emerging concept or industry, the terminology used to describe it is also emerging and besides the term "out of home" advertising networks, it is often referred to as: Digital Signage Networks, Dynamic Signage Networks, Digital Media Networks, In-Store TV, Retail TV, Captive Audience Networks, Narrowcasting, Datacasting, Electronic Display Networks, etc. One day the industry will probably adopt a single name but until then Scala is in the business of serving all of these needs!
Scala provides a range of products and services to address the needs of large networks of "out of home" advertising displays that influence purchase behaviour via a centrally controlled network of verifiable displays. Scala provides a proven end-to-end software solution that enables these networks to operate more inexpensively than competing media, with greater ease and flexibility, with complete central control and accountability, while generating greater revenues and increased sales. Content can scheduled for playback by location or time.
In addition to offering a solution for this new focused and targeted advertising medium, Scala's InfoChannel® software solutions are also widely used in employee training networks (both passive and interactive), call centre information systems, corporate communications networks (also referred to as "Employee TV"), airport advertising/communication networks and for generating localized community Cable TV access or advertising channels. In addition Scala's flexible software architecture allows full integration of emergency response procedures, further leveraging the same network infra-structure.
In fact in many large-scale retail environments Scala has seen a growing requirement for both "customer facing" (advertising based) and "employee facing" (training) screens on the same network (and in the same locations), offering improved economies of scale and allowing the subsidizing of employee training and communications by the new advertising revenue generated from the same network. Very often these new media networks can be "piggybacked" or overlaid over the existing corporate IT communications infrastructure already in place, due to the Services.
